worku_pic_2Dr Mulat earned his PhD from Cork University, Ireland (2001), MSc, from Gent University, Belgium (1993), and BSc from Asmara University, Eritrea (1987). He is currently serving as Assistant Research Professor and PIRE Project Manager at  University of Connecticut.

In the research front, he co-supervises 8 PhD students in Ethiopia as part of on-going collaboration between the University of Connecticut and Ethiopian Institute of Water Resources, Addis Ababa University. He has strong interest in applied research in the area of water quality, stream ecology and the impact of water infrastructural development on public health and aquatic ecosystems.

As PIRE program manager, he seeks a winning strategy to make PIRE project exemplary for best practices in collaborative research. He also takes on the challenges of coordinating field trips for researchers drawn from different time zones and geographical boundaries. Moreover, he creates a platform where stakeholders and scientists craft decision support tools to  improve water and food security in Ethiopia.
